VOLT® Pro Junction Hub

A Landscape Lighting Innovation, Designed & Engineered Exclusively by VOLT™
This groundbreaking junction box brings field wire connections to the next level.
Using robust securely mounted terminal blocks, wires are inserted and secured without grease. Say goodbye to lost connectors and getting all of that silicone grease on your hands. These connectors use aggressive clamps to secure each individual wire. Wires can be connected or disconnected when needed.

This is the best hub junction on the market!

  • Connect up to 7 fixtures and the main line from the transformer - accommodates large or small projects.
  • Simply press tab to open clamp then insert wire. Release clamp to make connection. Simple and fast.
  • Connectors are protected from elements and resist corrosion. Built for lifetime systems.
  • Serves as a voltage testing point for initial installation and future maintenance.
  • Pro Junction Hub is constructed of flat black impact-resistant PVC and accommodates a stake or surface mount to secure unit.
  • Saves time and money while providing best-in-class lighting system connections.
  • Accepts up to 12 gauge wire
  • UL listed

To Hub or not to Hub, That is the Question:

The Hub Method of wiring describes when several lighting fixtures are connected to a single junction. A wire then connects the junction to the transformer to supply the power. A lighting system may use several hubs - all connected to a single transformer.

In the days when all lighting used incandescent or halogen bulbs, hubs were needed to ensure that every fixture received exactly the same voltage. Now, with LED systems, the acceptable voltage range is much wider (8V to 15V compared to the previous 10V to 12V). This means that hubs are no longer needed to equalize the voltage. But there are many other reasons why hubs are smart for all systems - even LEDs.

Benefits of Hub Systems

  • Equalizes voltage among fixtures (not so important for LEDs)
  • With a Pro Junction Hub you do not need to buy connectors—the hub has connectors built-in.
  • Connections are secure and dry above ground for better long term reliability and convenient troubleshooting.
  • Speeds up installation time dramatically.
  • Reduces number of splices in the field. Splices are points where connections may fail over time - best to have fewer.
  • With fewer splices, there is less material cost and reduced labor - saves time and money.
  • Provides a place to test voltage for each fixture - great for troubleshooting
  • Makes it easy to add or remove fixtures after installation.

Pro-Tip: Attach a Surface Mount accessory and you can mount the hub in convenient locations such as on deck surfaces, in pump houses, or near air conditioning units. Attach a stake for extra stability in soft soil or mulch.

First, this is much bigger than I thought it would be (about the size of a soup can). Well made. Very easy to use. Not sure why some reviews complained of difficulty squeezing the connectors to insert the wires. I got 4 of these and they were all very reasonable to do by hand and required no special tools or pliers to squeeze them. Very secure connections. Don't use anything bigger than a #12 wire for your home run or it won't fit.

So like others, I had difficulty getting the clasp open enough to get the wire in and hold it securely. I'd get a few in - and then with all the wiggling others would pop out. And for the main feed I was using 12 Gauge wire and there was just no way I could get that to go into the opening and stay there. I finally gave up and just used water proof wire nuts. The housing itself works well and looks nice and unobtrusive. Can't recommend the wiring block.

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

I love Volt lighting fixtures but not this junction hub. I should have read the reviews more completely because I found the interior wiring block to be entirely unusable. Once I gave up on it and did the wire connections the old fashioned way, I couldn't even get the wiring block out using the Allen wrench included. A full scale disaster for the homeowner. Not recommended by me.

Not for stranded wire

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

The connectors in this product appear to be Wago Chassis-Mount Terminal Strips with Push-in CAGE CLAMPÂ. According to the Wago Web site, these connectors are designed "For factory wiring, Push-in CAGE CLAMPÂ Connection Technology allows solid conductors, fine-stranded conductors WITH FERRULES or ultrasonically bonded conductors from 20 Ä 12 AWG (0.5 Ä 4mm2) to be terminated by simply pushing them into the unit (length of bonded conductor end: min. 7 mm)."

In all my experience with this hub echos that of others who have posted negative comments. I bought four and three will be going back. I'm going to try the Micro-Junction connectors and/or the "Zone Control" junction box, perhaps the two in combination to keep the connections above ground.

Good start, needs design work

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

Pros
1. No silicone! I love the idea of being able to maintain without silicone. Also keeps cost down.
2. Above grade. Not all installs can be easily hid below grade. This eliminates the problem.
3. Ground or hardscape. Handy to be able to use either stake or mount.
4. Covered lid.
5. Wire block. Much easier to manage than a gang of huge nuts.
Cons
1. Wire insert rubber grommets. These are not secure enough to withstand either pushing wire through to break the initial seal. 12/2 direct burial with heavy insulation definitely gave these grommets a hard time and forced me to reinstall almost everyone used.
2. Wago Wire blocks. These are some of the most reluctant Iêve ever used. Channel lock pliers helped.
3. Hub height/depth. Working with the hub is a challenge. Volt should make the hubs taller to accommodate holding more coiled-up wire inside the hub.

Junctions/hubs

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

I love the idea of these hubs, and installed 5 in our yard. It helped with electrical distribution absolutely. I found them slightly difficult to insert wires into them, but probably a user issue. I have large fingers, so it was a bit tough for me. But the product itself is nicely built and works great to isolate sections of the yard.

Very difficult to open wire connectors to fit the end of the wire into junction box. Had to use a pliers and still had a very hard time getting the end of the #12 wire into the opening.

Perfect Junction

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

I used this for up-lighting in an area that spanned 15' by 3'. Buy the fixtures with the longer leads and run your primary to the junction. Primary was 12 gauge and fixtures were 14 gauge. All fit well in the junction box. Obviously, the 14 gauge was a better fit, but the 12 fit just fine. By far the best way to connect multiple fixtures in a relatively small area.

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

I found this to be a convenient and clean solution. The connectors are tough, but I used nose pliers to pry the wire opening. Just make sure that the wire is no thicker that 12 gauge--14 is better.

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

This Junction box is the way to go. The terminals are very tight and makes good connections. I am using 14 gauge wire and the transformer is about 75 feet away from the farthest light and have about .25 of voltage drop.

Not worth the money really

By

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

The product description sounded like this would be a great addition to the product range ... BUT ... it can't take 10/2 gauge wire and as others have said it is very difficult to use. Pressing the release tabs to open up the wire clamps was very very hard and my finger ends are sore from installing the five hubs I ordered. I doubt if I will order this more expensive hub again.

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

The other reviewers are absolutely correct. The clamps that you squeeze were impossible to open at first. I was going to send them back immediately. However, I decided to get a pair of plyers and basically squeeze the clamps open to loosen them up. After that, they were very easy to handle. A little bit more work, but it was worth it. This hub saved me a lot of time

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

The HUB is the PERFECT way to connect your project. NO SPLICES needed if you plan well. I used 25' leads on all fixtures and did not need a single splice. All voltage drops are identical. Works perfectly!

Not an improvement over the standard junction box

By

from durham, NC United States

Comments about VOLT® Pro Junction Hub | 12V Landscape Lighting:

Bought two of these, but found the terminal blocks in both junction boxes poorly made and very difficult to use. Previously, I have used the empty junction box for a hub, making the connections with wire nuts, and comparing the two I find this product disappointing on all dimensions: More expensive, not as secure a connection, and far more difficult to use. It works, but I cannot recommend this product, as the quality of the terminal block is not up to this company's high quality standard.
