VOLT® 75 Watt 12 & 15v Multi-Tap Transformer

VOLT® 75W Landscape Lighting Transformers feature top-of-line internal and external components for professional results and commercial reliability. Truly, the perfect solution for a small landscape lighting system. This extremely reliable, energy-efficient, and quiet transformer will last a lifetime. The stainless steel body deters rust and maintains integrity even in corrosive outdoor environments.

The 12- and 15-volt taps give you choices for fixtures that are either far or near the transformer; or for wire runs that have heavy loads. Convenient stainless steel mounting bracket, removable door, and removable lower plate make installation an easy process.

Built-in mechanical timer allows for easy system programming. Photocell receptacle allows your transformer to be fully programmed to daylight scheduling.

Since wiring can be difficult on a transformer with a very small body cavity, our VOLT® 75W Multi-Tap Transformer features approximately 35% larger openings than other similar models. That allows you to organize your incoming lines and make connections without hassle.

Easily one of the best low voltage transformers on the market. Don't settle on any lesser quality! Order your commercial-grade low voltage transformer today from VOLT®.

  • Q:

I am going to install 12 Max Spread Path Lights, going to use the 3w LED bulbs. My run is about 200 feet. Is the 75w transformer going to be enough for my need?
Asked on 3/20/2017 by Homeowner from Dayton, OH

    1 answer

    • VOLT Lighting Specialist

      A:

With 12 Max Spread Path Lights at 3w a piece you are at 36w all together so that transformer is adequate. The 200ft run can be accomplished with 10/2 gauge wire. All in all that transformer will suit you just fine.

  • Q:

It says this transformer has a built in mechanical timer? Can I program the start and end times using this timer? Where can I find more details on this timer's features?
    Asked on 3/4/2017 by Manish

    1 answer

    • VOLT Lighting Specialist

      A:

The mechanical timer has a military time based dial on the timer itself, you can use the pins ( placing them downward towards the center of the timer to indicate a start and stop timer; Also the pins in-between the two marked for start and stop will have to be inward facing as well. You can find out installation guide for this item by clicking on the downloads button when viewing the product.

    IS IT DIMMABLE?
Asked on 2/1/2017 by DAVID from CA

    1 answer

    • VOLT Lighting Specialist

      A:

We have not tested dimmers with any of our transformers. They are not manufactured to be dimmed, so we cannot guaranty results.

  • Q:

Will this 75w transformer overdrive my LED lights if I only have one or two 5W lights hooked up and shorten their life span? Is there a minimum load required? The reason I ask is I want to expand with some more lights at a later time.
Asked on 1/8/2017 by Mike from Punta Gorda, Fl

    1 answer

    • VOLT Lighting Specialist

      A:

The transformer only uses the wattage you are pulling with those LED bulbs. The fixtures are only receiving the 12 or 15 volts, depending on how you wire them. Most people get larger transformers for future expansion, so that is not an issue.

Terse review due to 1000 char limit.

I actually purchased 300 and 900 Watt 12-15V but providing info that may apply here as well.

On main web pag, click "How to Center" link under "Help", find the "Low Voltage Layout Guide" link to get to the voltage drop formula and chart. Using this chart I was able to determine that I could use a 12 - 15V instead of the more expensive 15 - 22V transformer.

As other reviewers, when I mounted the photo sensor - the knuckle broke. I managed to fix it.

The transformer boxes have a punch out on the side for the photo cell as well as several at the bottom for wiring (of if the photo cell extension cable). All of the punch outs are in reality a punch out within a punch out. The inner is 1/2 inch. The outer is 3/4 inch. The photo sensor is 1/2 inch when mounting on the box. Remove the inner punch out very carefully or it will pull the outer one with it.

Every time we have a short power outage (the ones that last only fractions of a second) the timer stops working. Per Volt's instruction, I have to go out and unplug the unit, spin the dial, reset the timer, and plug it back in. This makes it work, but is a real chore and sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to get it going again. Volt says this is normal as the unit is not designed to tolerate these brief outages. If I had known this in advance, I would have bought something else.

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

Good product, well made but could be better. The cover plate is cumbersome and has to be taken off to get inside. Screws and cover are easily miss placed. Should make this with a hinged lid. The timer face is complicated and somewhat hard to set. This is another area that could be re-engineered to make it easier to use. Why not a digital timer?

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

I love my lighting! I have two runs. One is 100 feet long with 6 lights, the other shorter run with 6 lights as well. There is plenty of power with no drop off using the 12 volt tap. The timer works great and the box is solidly built. I couldn't be happier. The Volt staff answered all my questions through the build as this was my first attempt at lighting.

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

I never have seen a transformer this small. Its a great product for small projects, especially LED systems. The 15v tap is a great option in case of add ons. The only down side is that it has a built in timer. If that goes then I would assume the whole transformer would need to be replaced. Still LOVE the VOLT products

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

We use this transformer to power two lamps to light our flagpole. I added the light sensor to it and run it that way, without setting any on/off times. It is a well-made piece of equipment that I expect will hold up against the elements outdoors. It is easy to install and use. Somebody thought about it before it went to market.

This trasnformer was easy to use and it had a built in timer that met our needs. I would purchase this again. I do recommend that Volt create a new installation manual for this transformer as it was a generic manual for maybe multiple types of transformers?

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

I purchased two of these transformers to replace units at my home purchased from a big-box store. As a landscape architect, I let my clients know that specification-grade equipment is superior in quality and longevity compared to lesser systems. As a homeowner, I thought it was worth a try to save money by purchasing from a big-box store. I've since replaced all of my fixtures and transformers with VOLT equipment. Their quality is very good and pricing is still much lower than other specification-grade low-voltage equipment. The 75 Watt transformer has plenty of power for the LED fixtures I'm using and I particularly like the manual timer which allows multiple on-off cycles per day and does not need to be reset each time the power blinks off.

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

I have had to replace 2 of these units, both for the same reason. Both failed within the first year of use. The timer would stick at a particular time during the 24 hour period.

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

Wow, what a difference! Our former 75 watt VOLT transformer finally gave up the ghost after a year and a half. It was installed by Rich of Three Seasons Landscape, Palmetto, in August of 2015. Like most everything else he did on our property, it was a slip-shod operation. He probably sold us an old used unit that he knew was on it's way out. It sounded like an electric coffee grinder when it ran. He created a bunch of headaches for us with his lack of knowledge and poor work ethic. But that is for another time.( We never got any warranty papers on anything he sold to us) So, we now have this new 75 watt transformer that is wonderful. Keeps perfect time and is SILENT!! Love it. (You can come get your old piece of hardware, Rich) Thank you!

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

I ordered the transformer and did not realize the timer was built in so had also ordered the photo sensor. However we decided we wanted to use the time instead. When we went to set the timer we could not turn the dial. I called customer service and they walked me through a few steps and nothing worked. I shipped it back and sent me a new one. No hassles and everyone I talked to was fabtastic. Works great!

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

This is a very well made transformer. Nice stainless steel enclosure and easy to wire. I see complaints about the KOs being hard to get out. This wasn't a big deal to me as I am an electrician and used to it. If you hit the knockout very sharply and hard on the edge it will start to pop right out. No complaints. Great product.

It Works Great

Comments about VOLT® 75 Watt (12v & 15v) Multi-Tap Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Lighting:

Installed this transformer for 7 LED fixtures (also bought here) and it works flawlessly. I read the reviews about the knockouts so I removed the whole bottom plate from transformer then braced it before using the screw drive to punch it out. It came out cleanly with first hit. The inclusion of integrated timer saves money as well. The directions were confusing so just in case for the timer here is how it works. When the trippers are located towards the center, that is the ON position. Move all the trippers away from the center for the time range you want the lights to be OFF. Hope it saves some Youtube searches!
