Product Description

VOLT® 300 Watt Slim Line LED Transformer for Low Voltage Landscape Lighting

This low-profile transformer breaks ground in the simplicity of installation and control. The clamp-connect terminal blocks are impressively easy and safe to use - taking seconds to connect compared to standard terminal blocks. Just insert the pre-stripped wire and close the clamp!

Also available (sold separately) is the VOLT® newly designed timer/photocell combination. When installed, it is visible through the housing window and can be set for simple dusk-to-dawn operation, or set to turn off after a certain number of hours. Photocell sensitivity may limit transformer placement. This timer is a removable module - easily replaced.

The Slim Line Transformers have an easily removable, tool-less grommet that replaces the difficult to remove metal knock-outs of traditional transformers. The grommets on the new Slim Line Transformers are removed and replaced easily if necessary.

To make this transformer slimmer, lighter, and simpler-to-install, we eliminated unnecessary voltage taps. With the new Slim Line Transformer, there is no need to worry about voltage loss.

For Your Information: Transformer Technology

Magnetic Transformers. There are two types. These vary by the type of core:

 1. Laminated/stacked cores (also known as EI type). Laminated or stacked windings have sheets wrapped in copper wire that are then stacked or laminated together to make a core. This is the more common, less expensive method for manufacturing a core. These are less efficient, run hotter and are noisier than toroidal cores.
 2. Toroidal cores. These are one solid unit shaped like a donut and have the windings wrapped around the donut, in and out of the donut hole. Toroidal cores are more efficient, experience less buzz, and run cooler but are more expensive to make.

What are Electronic Transformers?

This transformer type converts the 120-volt current to 12 volts by first increasing the frequency of the current (from 60 Hz to as high as 20,000 Hz). The increased frequency allows the use of a miniature core enabling the transformer to be very small, light, and inexpensive. The biggest downside is that their high-frequency current may not be compatible with LED circuits. These currents also suffer from extensive voltage loss compared to magnetic types. A 12-volt electronic transformer must be positioned within about 10 ft. of the fixture. Electronic transformers are also subject to overheating and premature failure.

I didn’t see the timer available that was mentioned in your video. I believe it was a intermatic DC20. Is it available on your website—couldn’t find it? Also, I’m considering the 300 watt unit or the slimline with the clamp connect feature.

Asked by: Drio
We no longer carry the Intermatic Digital Timer. Instead, we have our G3 Astronomical Digital Timer. However, digital timers are not compatible with Slim Line transformers. We do carry specific mechanical and photocell timer combos for the Slim Line series.

Is there a limited to how many lights you can run on one line, I have 10 low voltage 7 watts on one line and I would like to run more around to the front of the house on a second line. Going to upgrade to a 300 watt unit

Asked by: Tim3
You should stay within 80 watts per line and do not exceed a total of 80% of the transformers maximum capacity. The 300 watt transformer gives you up to 240 watts to play with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Transformer This is a great transformer and easy to use and looks good too. It make no humming noise at all and is easy to setup. The 12v and 15V taps are easy to use with the quick connects. No voltagat drops and i ran home runs close to 115 feet long with lots of lights on them. Can also run more than one home run line out of each COM and tap as long as you don't exceed the 80% capacity. Each connector will accept at least two 12 gauge wires and still make a solid connection. i did notice that the timer/photocell module takes a good 5-10 seconds before the blue pilot light is visible. At first I thought it wasn't working, but it just takes longer than the instructions implied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would definitely shop with VOLT again I made a pretty big purchase from VOLT, I have shopped with them a couple of times now. Each time, it was very easy to navigate the site, they had everything I needed to finish the job, and it came out beautiful. Shipping is always very quick, within a couple of days, and I have never been shorted. I have had a problem with only one light so far, and it was handled quickly, it took me longer to get it to them then it did for them to turn it around and send me a new replacement. My experiences have never been anything less than stellar. I would highly recommend them for your lighting needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, sturdy transformer. The build quality on this transformer is impressive. Upon unboxing, I was impressed at the quality of construction. As far as transformers go, the stainless steel enclosure is clean and attractive. The optional photocell timer is also well built and easy to use. Installation was a super easy. My only gripe is the short power cable. I wish the cable was 1-2 feet longer. I'm running 20 fixtures off the transformer. 5 off the 12v line all within 100 feet and 15 off the 15v line up to 350 feet away. The transformer has no problem powering these, whatsoever. The transformer is cool and silent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product I have only had the transformer operating for a few weeks so I can’t comment on long-term use. So far, however, I have nothing but good things to say. The size of the product is good—small enough to fit almost anywhere. The ease of operation is a definite plus. Simple connections for the wiring and plug and play timer installation. If I remember I’ll come back after 6-12 months with a long term review. But for now highly recommend this transformer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality and easy to install This unit replaced a 15+ year old magnetic transformer that ran outside landscaping lights and was no longer functioning. I was very pleased with the ease of installation. Had to re-strip the leads and plugged it into the unit rather than using twist-on connectors. Only issues is that the existing wiring is 8 gauge which did not fit easily into the clamp connectors on the unit. Otherwise, it was a simple installation. Installed this a month ago, and it is working well. Seems to be a better solution than other alternative units that were less expensive, but potentially lower quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a quality beast. Looking at the website, I could tell this company was serious about their quality, design, and workmanship. I was replacing a transformer where the sensor failed, rendering it useless, followed by an extremely heavy and nice looking replacement, which lasted all of one week. It was clear to me that I was making a good choice switching over to Volt. I was not wrong. The install was extremely easy, and the locking clips which hold in the wires are incredibly solid. It has been only a couple of weeks, but I am optimistic that I will have this unit for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use, Plenty of Capacity, Sturdy I have no experience with landscape lighting, but I found this unit intuitive and easy to use. I installed it near an existing outdoor outlet and ran all my wiring back to the transformer. When I was ready, I connected it up, tested the circuits, and all was good. No need for adjustments. I use the light sensor/timer, and it works great (on at dusk, off at dawn). And in my limited experience with rain, it seems to seal just fine. I have no experience with other products, but I can say that I am very pleased with this one and have no desire to look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Volt 300 watt slim line led transformer (s) After doing several hours of research I chose to replace my two old and failing transformers I have been using in my yard. I chose the Volt 300 watt slim line led transformer (s) based on reviews of durability, technology, ease of use, quality, support, and style features. I did not want a cheap box store replacement that would likely last 2-4 years. I wanted a commercial grade product and I wanted something that would be sitting on the ground. I purchased this setup with the frame so the unit sits up out of any moisture. It looks and works fantastic.
