Intermatic Heavy Duty Mechanical Timer
The Intermatic Heavy Duty Mechanical Timer is an essential energy-saving mechanical timer for your low voltage landscape lighting system. This heavy-duty unit plugs directly our VOLT® Multi-Tap Transformers and gives you ease of light system control. The timer has a three wire grounded plug and outlet for safety, and features include a manual override and up to 3 On/Off settings per day. This durable unit will provide years of reliable, consistent control for the well landscape lighting system.
When used in combination with a Photocell, the photocell turns the system ON at dusk, while the timer turns the system OFF at a designated time. (For this application, you set the ON time to sometime after dusk - so the Photocell has the responsibility to turn the system ON.)

After buying and trying the standard indoor timers which are available on the retail market, I decided to bite the bullet and see if I could find the old pin-style timers that I used to have. I found them at this store. They're not inexpensive, but they work! They're simple to configure, they're reliable, and they're smaller than some that I've recently bought from my local hardware store (several of which I've had to throw away because they didn't work right out of the box!)
Now I know where to go to get good indoor timers.

Nothing special, just a regular timer. Upgrade to the Astronomic Digital Timer and you won't ever have to reset your lights after power outages. Your time savings is well worth the extra cost!

Typical mechanical timer - not any different than sold elsewhere, but fits nicely with the transformer. I already own one that that purchased elsewhere, and it's been working well for at least a couple years.

Mechanical timers by nature are just not as accurate as digital timers nor as durable. You may just want to consider pay a bit more for a higher quality product.

I am using this timer to have my landscape lighting come on at night and automatically stop in the morning. It is easy to set the timer for multiple on/off times.
