Is there a difference between the hooded and louvered step lights in regard to light spread? We are looking to mount some lights on a short concrete wall and are looking for maximum light spread but do not want the open face version.
In regards to the Hooded light Louver light: I actually have both on my redwood deck. I use the hood of light Shining down from my benches onto the deck itself for more of a direct beam which is the effect I wanted. I found that the louver lights have a more dispersed. Wider beam to shine down on my lawn from my deck facia. Both have concealed bulbs so you don’t see the actual light filament. Hopefully that answers your question.

Is there a mounting bracket for this light that will allow the wire more space and not be pinched by the light when it is tightened against a concrete step?
Hello Connie,
There is not an additional mounting plate, but the fixture is already designed with the screws on the back acting as a spacer for the wire. It should not be an issue to fit the wire in the space created by those screws.

Attractive and Functional Stair Fixture
Our backyard had an unlit, fairly long concrete stairwell bordered by short masonry and stucco sidewalls. VOLT mini thin open LED unit allowed us to retrofit our steps with lighting using sidewall positioning at every third step. Low voltage wiring was easily buried behind the wall. A thin wooden template was fashioned to mark accurate drill hole placement for mounting and for the wire lead. Secure fixation was achieved using the provided plastic anchors and color matched screws. Flush mounting was achieved by fashioning a shallow recess with a 3/8 inch ( masonry) bit just medial to each fixation hole, to accommodate the slightly proud screw heads on the back side of each unit. We are pleased with the appearance and function of this fixture.

Stair light
Great stair light, but when installing it flush on a wood riser you need to remove some wood because of rear light fixture screws to enable a flush installation. It also would be nice to include a template for the screw and wire locations. Otherwise it is a great fixture with just the correct amount of light.

Quality product and Quality company.
I'm happy with the product. The quality is very good. Heavy weight, substantial and well-constructed. I have this to compliment my Slim 100 transformer (VOLT) and six deck lights I purchased a few years ago. The product(s) are excellent. However, the true measure of a company is what happens when things don't go as expected? My mini thin hooded step light arrived; I wired it up and it didn't work. I requested an RMA and I received that immediately along with a return label. Replacement showed up, it didn't "work" either. I called VOLT and said I think I need technical help because I started to doubt that two units would be a fail right out of the box.
Turns out, I wired it into the transformer properly. The person on the phone from VOLT was very helpful - and it was an easy fix. The original unit wasn't damaged - it did work, it's just that I wired it incorrectly. VOLT was very quick at getting RMA numbers issued, return ship labels issued and very fast at shipping out product. I'm not only very happy with the quality of the products, but the company behind the products is very good (and reliable) as well. Thank you.

Beautifully crafted.
Beautifully crafted product. Fits perfectly along the wall next to my paver pathway, they are a wonderful addition to my 50+ Volt lighting fixtures. The company has tremendous after sale service too. Anytime I have had a problem over the last 7 years, they respond instantly and replace the failed unit.

They are Perfect!
They are flush mounted and ideal for outdoor patio steps, whether wooden or stone. Our are just 100% brightness (did not do any dimming) and they are great, placed one every other step. Simple to install and simple to use, just the way I like it.

Step Lights
In years past, we used landscape light systems from the big box stores. Typically, they were short lived of a few years or required frequent maintenance. My last home we installed quality fixtures to much delight. We just built a new home and the quality of the Volt lights is solid. They came packaged really well. Customer support has been super responsive. Overall, A+ so far!
