VOLT® Fat Boy

VOLT's® Fat Boy Spotlight is easily the most affordable all-brass fixture in low voltage outdoor lighting. Solid brass all the way through: Sheet brass body, cast brass knuckle, and solid brass screws and knobs. Comes with PVC ground stake (brass surface mount base shown in picture is an optional accessory). Uses MR-16 lamp/bulb. Uses premium grade internal components: Silicone sealed at lead wire exit, internal heat reflector, pre-greased ceramic socket for longevity and convex lens for shedding water. Perfect for any uplighting application. The Fat Boy Spotlight is a great solution for any budget without sacrificing pro-grade quality.

Features & Benefits:

  • Sheet brass construction
  • Pre-aged brass finish. There is no powder coating, paint or finish to wear off or peel—just the natural patina beauty of brass that does not corrode.
  • Solid brass or stainless steel components.
  • 360º rotatable glare guard
  • The body is machine threaded and screws tight onto an O-ring for the ultimate moisture tight design.
  • Choose from 48" standard or 25' hub ready 16G, SPT-2 premium tinned copper lead wire.
  • The lens is convex so water does not puddle on the lens which reduces hard water build-up and water intrusion.
  • Ceramic high temperature socket.
  • Socket and machine thread body are pre-greased for smooth operation and moisture protection.
  • Silicone plug where lead wires exit fixture. Prevents ground moisture and insects from entering fixture through the stem.
  • Complete water shedding and drainage off convex lens.
  • Low voltage, 12 volts.
  • Requires VOLT's® Low Voltage Transformer (Sold Separately, click HERE to view)
  • UL & cUL Listed
  • Lifetime Warranty.

Orientation Note: Use only for up-lighting. For downward-facing applications, please use VOLT downlights.

  • Q:

What is the best bulb size to use for up lighting of mid size tree's, I have not used LED lights before.

      A:

We usually recommend 20-30 watt halogen equivalent bulbs, this way as the tree grows the light will still be sufficient. This is a retro-fit fixture so you can change bulbs as the tree gets larger.

I will buy plenty more.

Great fixture for the money. I used an MR 16 5w 2700K 38° angle for up lighting on the house wall. Convex lense is great so water or leaves fall off.

These are a total pain. The bulbs are very hard to install. Every time the yard maintenance crew comes, they knock the bulbs out and I have to go around and put them all back in again. My husband cannot do it because his fingers are too big. There is no room inside the case to hold the bulb while installing it: in other words, 2 fingers and a bulb width do not fit in the case. They easily dislodge upon being bumped. I would never purchase these again.

Great lights, very well made.

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

We have purchased 9 of these lights and are extremely pleased with the quality and performance of them. All of them have been placed to up-light trees and these lights do a magnificent job on trees 30' tall or shorter. Note: we are using 50W equivalent, 40 degree beam width, 2700k warm white LED bulbs rated for 500 lumens. However on our 50' and taller trees, you get a great emphasis on the tree trunk, but the tree limbs (20' to bottom branches) only get marginal lighting. We will be adding a light to each tree attached to the tree approximately 20' up the tree to fix this short-coming. All in all though these lights exceeded our expectations.

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

These are high quality like all Volt products. Heavy duty and on the big size but worth it. It's nice to have removable led bulbs as they do go bad so replacing the bulb is preferable over the unit. I have about 14 of these lining the driveway and they look great.

Good spot. Only complaint is it is challenging to put the bulb in. Other than that, highly recommend. and provides a good amount of light without being blinding.

Hub system makes installing easy and reliable

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

Using the 25' leads and above ground hub junction boxes made diy installation easy, intuitive and reliable. No more cheap wire piercing connectors that never last. Just make sure you don't mismatch any negatives and positives when making connections. I learned the hard way!! Markings on the wires could be more distinct.

Great fixture With One Minor Glitch

By

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

The Fat Boy Spot Light is solidly built and performs well. The minor glitch is that the clips that hold the bulb in place make it somewhat difficult to install the bulb. Because of that, I ordered 5 Fat Boys but only installed three

LV Landscape lighting

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

This purchase was for replacement of existing fixtures. We are very satisfied with the product, which included the fixture, stake for mounting and 48" elect. wire. Fixture is sturdy brass, not plastic or "pot metal" and well made. The sale price made it an excellent buy and would recommend it.

Installer error

By

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

Originally I hated the light as it was dim and yellow. However, after Volt found out I was dissatisfied they called me ASAP to see if they could make it right. They did not want a dissatisfied customer. The President of the company also reached out to me to make sure I was happy.
After some trouble shooting I discovered my installer put the wrong bulb in the spotlight. He installed the pathway bulb instead of the spot bull(MR16). Once I changed the bulbs the light was bright, white, and beautiful.
I was very happy with the light, but most importantly with the customer support and service I received from everyone in the company from the President down to the customer service rep. He even called me on a Sunday. Very well done guys.

My Apologies

Another Great LV Spot

By

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

Just like its smaller cousin, this LV spot is of exceptional quality. I searched the net for similar quality lights and Volt's price can not be beat!

I am changing all of my "box store" pot metal LV lights with Volt's fixtures and LED bulbs. Got tired of pot metal lights breaking plus the moisture problems that caused sockets to corrode. With the new Volt lights, I don't think I will see a repeat of that problem.

Comments about Fat Boy Brass Spotlight | Low Voltage Landscape Lighting:

By far, these light are a great quality and far superior over the lights you would purchase at the local hardware store. I purchased these lights with 25ft cords and connected them all to a distribution box with power rail connections. The MR16 Bulbs fit great and are easy to change.. I have 12watt LED 4K bulbs that light up our house very well. Will be purchasing more for the back yard soon. Great price and product.

We use these in our entrance landscaping layout (Approximately 50). They are great. This last one was purchased to replace one that was run over by a vehicle that ran off the road. BTW - in nearly survived that.
