Dark-Sky Approved lighting fixtures have been engineered to minimize lighting pollution into the night sky. These fixtures can have positive impacts on wildlife, especially in areas visited by migratory species. VOLT® is a corporate sponsor of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). What are the Dark-Sky Fixture Seal of Approval criteria?

Outdoor lighting fixtures may be Dark-Sky approved if they are:

Controlled: Only be "On" when needed - to conserve valuable energy. Fixtures must be part of a system that uses automatic time controls.
Minimize Light Trespass: Only light the area that needs it - to conserve energy and to prevent unwanted light from trespassing into regions where it's not needed. There must be a way for glare to be controlled.
Minimize Brightness: Be no brighter than necessary - conserves energy and reduces harmful effects on plants, animals, and people.
Minimize Blue Light Emissions: Prevents disturbance of circadian rhythms on animals and people. Light shall have a maximum color temperature of 3000K.
Fully Shielded (Points Downward): Keeps unwanted light from polluting the night sky.
