Questions & Answers (Q&A)
I have gone through the instructions again and again. It appears that program 1 is set up correctly but I cannot get it to run. It was running ok, but not on Sunday. When I added Sunday, it stopped working. Are there Updated instructions?!
Hello,
I would make sure that program 1 for on and off are set correctly. For each program there is a separate on and off program. For instance p1 on and p1 off. I you require a instruction sheet there is a link to download one on the product page and that will have the most up to date one available.

I see this being plugged into a regular transformer in the video - does this fit inside of (and work with) a slimline transformer?
This timer is not compatible with Slim Line transformers.

You state that 'Fits directly into VOLT's® Multi-Tap and Clamp-Connect Transformers'. I have a slim line 150 watt transformer, but does this have to sit outside the transformer in line with the plug exposed to the elements?
In my experience it fits completely inside the transformer box.

Why does my battery backup not work? My power has shut off twice due to storms and each time, I have to go and manually do all the programming again.
Maybe it is a bad battery. I wasn’t able to program mine so I left it unplugged for a couple months and it finally died. The instructions are weak at best, so mine is not being used and will end up in the trash. Sorry I didn’t have a real answer for you.

I want a timer to go on every day at Astronomical Dusk for my region (zone), and go off at a set time (midnight). Does this timer allow for that program?
Yes. That’s exactly what this lets you do and the way I use it. It’s also nice with the built-in battery backup so if the power goes out, it doesn’t need to be reprogrammed again.

With the timer's battery fully charged but the power to it off, how long will the timer's programming keep?
The timer would keep all programming intact the entire time if it were to completely loose charge you would just have to rest the clock after charging.

Is this product. UL LISTED?

VOLT Astronomic Digital timer
Well constructed, works as promised after you struggle hours with the programming. At the moment I am testing the device indoors.
It took me at least 10 times trying to program the device. the instructions are not complete, specially when you come to the end of the programming cycle. You never know if you are done or not.
This was frustrating, specially to Volt, which I consider an extremely solid company with excellent products.

Lame instructions
Well, so far, not so good. I wish the instructions were composed by someone who first language was English and by someone who has actually programmed the unit. The unit turns off the landscape lights at dawn but I’ve had to manually turn the timer on each evening. I’m sure there is something I am missing from the poorly written instructions. The YouTube video is video with subtitles, no voice. Poorly done. I really want this unit to work for me. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks

Great Astronomic Digital Timer - easy to program
The timer arrived in a timely fashion, and was very easy to program. It has a backup battery built-in, so programming is not lost in the event of a power failure. Not sure how long the battery will last in that event, but hopefully through the whole event. Nice that you can turn/off at "dusk" or "dawn", which exact time changes with the seasons. Easy to program to also turn-on or off at a specific time.
I had a problem with the 1st unit sent, where the backup battery was not working so you would lose programming whenever disconnecting from the power supply. Volt quickly and painlessly sent a replacement that was received in two days. Great customer service.

go with a photosensor if you can
I have many VOLT products and I put this on an older transformer of theirs, in which case a photosensor wasn't going to work. More complicated than it needs to be. Why would each day have a different schedule? The device allows one to pick up to 7 programs and have a program specific for each day of the week. I muddled through the directions, which are printed in super small type, but it took a few tries to iron out the issues. There's an option for "random" mode--to keep robbers from guessing you're not home I guess? Not really sure that's going to deter anyone. Go with a photosensor if you can.

Finally! An Astronomic Landscape Timer that works!
I have been looking for a landscape lighting timer that would work in a transformer housing and had been lured in by several other brands/models with timers that didn't fit. This one has the astronomic function that adjusts the time based on the changing seasons and works perfectly. Some have said it is hard to program but I had no trouble at all and couldn't figure out what the difficulty might have been for others. I've had this in place for several months and it tracks sunset well to turn on and then shuts off at a fixed time each night. I would absolutely buy this again!

Finally, no dusk to dawn issues
I bought the 900W transformer a couple years ago & always wished I could find a Astronomic timer to retrofit. Needless to say I was excited to see Volt added this to the line up. I Plugged it into an extension cord & programed it while sitting on my couch, let it sit overnight to charge the battery...Plugged it into the transformer the next day and presto. The only thing that would make it better is if it was compatible with HomeKit or a web based platform

Could cause a meltdown in your transformer.
This is my 2nd one I had to buy. The first one almost shorted my transformer out and caused a fire. The complaint I have is that volt always talks about a lifetime warranty and when I called on it, I got “well it could be this or that” and didn’t stand up to their guarantee. I have spent thousands with Volt and will now start looking for another company that actually honors their word and doesn’t try to get out of their commitment. Very disappointed.

Excellent timer, need more documentation
This timer does everything one wants, including a way to turn lights on based on "follow the sunset". It is mostly straightforward to program after playing with it a bit, but does get confusing when you get to the Multiple Programs section.
The biggest improvement would be to put in the product description and instructions "How to program the timer without installing it in the transformer". I used an extension cord to connect the timer to a regular wall outlet while programming. That worked fine, including remembering the programming after unplugging it.
