Questions & Answers (Q&A)
Can the 3.5W RGBCW G4 led be used in these?
This fixture is not compatible with the 3.5W RGBCW G4 LED, the housing cannot fit that LED bulb.

Have about 35’ of pathway. How many of theses lights would I need and what bulb would be recommended?
These lights are low to the ground and do not have a wide spread. If you are looking for overlap I would space on six feet center. I experimented with a couple of different bulbs. The 4000K to 6000K was too bright of a white, looked industrial, and the 2700K was too yellow, looked like old incandescent lighting. Finally found a 3500K that worked best for my landscape. There are several suppliers of G4 Pin style bulbs out there, but the Volt bulbs are much higher quality than most, with a ceramic base and pretty robust build. I picke dup some inexpensive bulbs or different color temperature, temp wired the lights, and then got the Volt bulbs before doing the final install. I installed 30 of these lights along a wall around my driveway and pool about a year ago. So far so good. The lens is acrylic so time will tell if they will last in the Arizona sun.

My main wire 14AWG can I connect to this 18AWG or do I need to use 18AWG?
If your 14 gauge wire is 12 volts it should work fine.

Do these get hot? Deck with small children use?
No- I have several in use, all LED powered Volt products operate at a very low/safe temperature completely child/pet safe.

Not their best work
Not their best work. Generally a big fan of Volt products but this one didn’t have the level of thoughtful design and quality that I have come to expect from this excellent company. The tiny screw in the bottom is easily lost and a better way to seal the case should have been utilized. Also, the recommended bulb type and its orientation inside the case does not work well with the 180 degree lens, and you’re left with an uneven light distribution across the diffuser. Case feels flimsy and not likely to withstand the occasional kick, trip, or stroller collision. Almost feels like the case might be plastic, which would be very disappointing.

Home Lighting System and Installation
I recently purchased a total of 28 lights and other accessories. Purchases lighting packages from Costco and other specific lights from Volt. I hired a contractor to do the initial underground wiring around the entire house and most of the lights. I eventually installed some lights and buried with wire myself. The work wasn't hard and didn't take an exorbitant amount of time. The finished product looks amazing at an affordable price. I ran into one snagged and Volt customer help me resolve in a matter of minutes. Regarding customer service, I would rate A+ because you can always reach someone via telephone and they are all knowledgeable about their products. I've received compliments from neighbors who now want to invest in a home lighting system.

Perfect for low profile application.
Very low profile fixture. Used them to cast light on several large rocks in our front yard. Love the brass construction. Had one issue with a lid cap screws (I ordered three of the fixtures). Had to heat the base of one fixture since the cap screw (M3-050) would not move. Called Volt, who were very helpful.
I would recommend you select a higher watt (lumen) bulb since the frosted cover on the fixture limits light output. Still, a great item. Would buy again.

Great Idea, but 2 Problems
The low profile of these lights is a great idea; however, the bulbs are too bright for my taste; I like a little more understated look. Even the alternative 1.5 W G4 bulb seems too bright for me. A 1 W bulb is perfect. Two issues that I need to mention...
1) The instructions in the Installation Guide for removing and installing the shade are incorrect
The instructions direct the user to do the following…
- To remove the shade: Remove the set screw, then pull the shade straight up from the fixture body (indicated by an arrow).
- To install the shade: Push the shade straight down, over the fixture body (indicated by an arrow), then secure it with the set screw.
The correct procedures are…
- To remove the shade: Remove the set screw, turn the shade 1/4” counterclockwise, then pull the shade straight up from the fixture body.
- To install the shade: Line up the notch on the bottom edge of the shade, so the left side of the notch lines up with the right side of the notch on the fixture body. Push the shade straight down, over the fixture body, then turn the shade clockwise 1/4”, so the notch gaps for both halves line up with each other. Secure it with the set screw. (The positioning of the notches should be illustrated.)
2) The placement of the set screw in the current design makes bulb changes extremely difficult
Once the path lights have been installed, it is extremely difficult to change bulbs, since the set screw is underneath the unit, and against the ground; this requires the user to pull up the stakes and the buried wiring, then twist the wiring many times in order to unscrew the brass nipple between the light and the stake, then tilt the light away from the stake, pulling the wire back, in order to access the set screw. If this product is ever redesigned, I hope that VOLT will consider placing the set screw on the SIDE of the shade, to make it easy for customers to change bulbs, without having to pull everything up to reach the screw under the bottom.

I finally found the perfect path lights.
I’ve been searching for a low voltage path light with this appearance for my deck and ramp for about a year. These are well made, easy to install, and reasonably priced.
